ADULT
EYE EXAMS
Eye Image Optometrists Checks for Cataracts and Glaucoma among Fort McMurray Adults
Your eyes are far more than just the windows to your soul – they’re actually connected to many of your body’s systems. That’s why routine eye exams are an important component of proper preventative healthcare for people of all ages. Eye exams not only test your vision, but they also provide an invaluable tool for examining your eye’s blood vessels, veins and nerves, all of which may contain clues to more serious health conditions. Remember, the sooner you detect an issue with your health, the better. Eye exams are recommended every year for most adults. During your eye exam we’ll:
-
Assess your visual acuity
-
Look for any developing eye conditions
-
Ensure your corrective lens prescription is current
-
Answer any questions you may have about your ocular health
What to Expect During an Adult Eye Exam
Our eye exams typically take about 20 minutes. However, you can rest assured that we take the proper amount of time to thoroughly assess each patient. You can expect a diagnostic testing (usually completed by an optometric assistant), followed by an assessment and consultation with an optometrist. If you wear corrective lenses – eyeglasses or contact lenses – please bring them with you. Here are some of the tools and equipment we use during most adult eye exams in our Fort McMurray office:
-
AutorefractorThis type of test provides an approximation of your corrective lens prescription to help the optometrist fine-tune your prescription.
-
Visual field testingThis type of test is used to assess your peripheral vision. Certain brain tumours can negatively impact your peripheral vision, making this an important test.
-
Digital retinal imagingThis type of test involves using a high-powered digital camera to take detailed images of the back of your eye. It is used to assess conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, which typically leave tell-tale signs behind when this type of imaging is used.
-
TonometryThis type of test involves us testing the amount of pressure in your eye with a gentle puff of air. High eye pressure has been linked to many diseases, including glaucoma.
-
Slit lamp examThis type of test involves assessing the front surface of your eye to check for developing conditions, including cataracts and dry eye.
Eye Image Optometrists also provides comprehensive eye exams for children and seniors. Please contact us today to schedule an appointment for your next eye exam!
